This is a speaking lesson—a letter about the classes of Yu Mei. Students need to reply the letter orally

4. Major steps
Step 1: Pre-speaking (3 min)
Teacher shows the schedule of next week on the PowerPoint.
Students are asked to describe what they are going to do.
(Justification: In this way, students’ interest will be aroused and it’s convenient for teacher to go on talking about the main topic.)
Step 2: While-speaking (7 min)
(1) Fast reading
Students read the passage as soon as possible, and find out the main idea. Teacher will also help to conclude.
(Justification: Students will get the general idea of this passage, and their reading ability of skimming and scanning can be
practiced.)
(2) Speaking
Teacher will guide them to think the possible ways to reply the letter.
Students work in groups and share the sentences they prepared.
(Justification: Students will understand more about the passage and get ready to write the article.)
Step 3: Post-speaking (5 min)
Students are encouraged to share their own reply to the whole class. Teacher helps to correct the pronunciation and expression.
Teacher will go on asking: Why do you like the subject? Students
have a free talk.
(Justification: Extend the topic. Students will learn more elements of speaking according to the passage.)
