4. Major teaching procedures
Step 1: Pre-reading (3 min)
Teacher shows some online shopping websites on the PowerPoint.
Students are asked to introduce what they know about them.
(Justification: In this way, students’ interest will be aroused and it’s convenient for teacher to go on talking about the main topic.)
Step 2: While-reading (10 min)
(1) Fast reading
Students read the passage as soon as possible, and find out the main idea. Teacher will also help to conclude.
(Justification: Students will get the general idea of this passage,and their reading ability of skimming and scanning can be
practiced.)
(2) Careful reading
Students read the paragraphs again carefully and find the specific advantage and disadvantage of online shopping. Later students should give their answers.
Teacher encourages some students to fill in the blanks on the blackboard.
(Justification: Students will understand more about the passage and improve their reading ability.)
Step 3: Post-reading (7 min)
Students finish the exercise on their textbook, and teacher helps to check the answer.
Students will talk about a question in groups: Are there any other advantages and disadvantages of online shopping? Then share their ideas to the whole class.
(Justification: Extend the topic, and help students to have more confidence in speaking English.)
